Genes: a dog breeding game
Linking to topics evolution and inheritance and inheritance, this lesson pack is for animal lovers in year 6 and P7. Teach the class about the sensational scientist Charles Darwin and play a card game in which the children ‘breed’ their own dogs to discover the effect of dominant and recessive genes.
This pack includes:
- A lesson plan, complete with an explanation of the gene rules
- A printable card game entitled ‘Become a dog breeder’
- A PowerPoint presentation that investigates how genes affect dogs’ coat colour and introduces the work of Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection
- Three guided reading texts: Sensational scientist Charles Darwin, how pet microchips work, and an interview with Dr Nicola Rooney, who trains dogs to do amazing things
